Examination of the Muscular Strength

An examination of the muscular strength – muscular test – is one of the basic examining methods in the area of the moving system. A method for measuring of the strength of a muscle is worked out for each muscle. The strength is set at 6 Degrees which describe the maximal strength which the muscle is able to produce. The examination of the muscular strength has begun to be used for a finding out of the extension of affections at ill people with poliomyelitis, and it was gradually proceeded to the examination of all disorders of the muscular strength both as myogenic as neurogenic etiology.

Degrees of the Muscular Strength according to the Muscular Test:

Muscular strength 0

a muscle has not any activity, and so it is not able to make any contractions

Muscular strength 1

a muscle makes only a muscular contraction without an evoking of a motor activity, i.e. a movement of a limb

Muscular strength 2

a muscle makes a movement of a limb only if the movement is made with a load smaller than a weight of the examined limb

Muscular strength 3

a muscle with this strength makes a movement of a limb only if a load is the same as a weight of the examined limb

Muscular strength 4

a muscle is able to make a movement only at a resistance which is small, but it is bigger than the weight of the limb

Muscular strength 5

a muscle is able to make a movement even if there is a big resistance against this movement

Every muscle has a worked out technique, and we have to recommend the professional literature because this problem goes beyond the content of this book.
